Who we are

At Metamora Bake House, we believe that food should nourish, not just fill. We're a small family-run cottage bakery nestled in the heart of horse country in Metamora, Michigan. Years ago, we left behind the fast pace of the city to raise our children surrounded by nature, open land, and real food. That move also began our journey into understanding the powerful connection between what we eat and how we feel.

After deep research into food systems, wheat genetics, and the health impact of processed ingredients, we began baking everything from scratch: sourdough bread, English muffins, bagels, tortillas, and sweet treats. Our mission was simple, feed our family with intention.

At the heart of everything we make is heritage grain flour sourced from Sunrise Flour Mill in Minnesota. Unlike modern wheat, heritage grains like Turkey Red and White Sonora haven’t been hybridized or genetically altered. They’re easier to digest, richer in nutrients, and, when freshly milled are bursting with flavor and life. Sunrise Flour Mill mills these ancient grains fresh for every order, preserving their full nutritional value.

We pair that with only the highest-quality ingredients:

  • Organic, heritage grain flour

  • Grass-fed & grass-finished butter

  • A2, organic milk

  • Pasture-raised eggs

Sure, you’ll find the occasional cookie packed with Oreos or colorful cereal—but underneath the fun is a foundation of real, nourishing ingredients you can feel good about.

We bake in small batches, with care, by hand. We eat everything we make. And we’re excited to share it with our community because we believe better food makes better lives.
